Sydney siders to beat rising energy costs

With the typical Sydney electricity bill expected to increase by around 21 per cent and pundits predicting that energy prices will rise as much as 40 per cent in a carbon economy, it will pay to become more energy efficient now, according to Mr Danny Morgan, Managing Director of Enact Energy Australia.

Enact Energy is one of Australia’s largest energy efficiency installers and assessors.

Mr Morgan said that the ABS Consumer Price Index reported that during the past year household electricity costs rose across Australia by 15.8 per cent to September 2009 and no doubt many of Sydney’s residents have felt the pinch of electricity price hikes in the past 12 months.

The good news is that this month 20,000 households in and around Baulkham Hills and Castle Hill will have the chance to offset the rising cost of electricity and improve the comfort of their homes through the national Green Project, a free home energy efficiency service provided by Enact Energy.

“We have set up the Green Project to help householders offset these increases, and save on their heating and cooling, lighting, hot water and general water bills.
“For example, by installing ceiling insulation, householders can save on average $200 per year and a tonne of greenhouse gas emissions. By installing Solar Hot Water a family can also save up to $700 on their energy bills each year.

“The Green Project is a unique service that takes the hassle out of improving home energy efficiency while bringing together thousands of dollars in government rebates and incentives through one simple and quality assured program.

“The Green Project ensures householders get the most benefit in terms of savings, comfort and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. We do this by helping them choose the right products and ensuring they are installed to a high standard,” Mr Morgan said.

The service also includes a free information and advice line, free home energy audits, free insulation, heavily subsidised solar hot water systems and heat pumps, and hassle-free support with government paperwork.
“We also conduct random follow-up inspections and provide quality assurance on all our installations.

“The Green Project can arrange everything and homeowners can be confident that we have quality assured products. Our products are also supplied by recognised Australian manufacturers, and are fitted by expert local installers.

“We see the Green Project as an additional service to the State and Federal Governments’ drive for more energy efficient lifestyles. It gives residents another opportunity to make their homes even more comfortable while helping to curb the state’s growing energy consumption through household heating and cooling,” Mr Morgan said.

Other residents not in Castle Hill 2154 and Baulkham Hills 2153, who would like to take advantage of this opportunity now, can also call the Green Project on 1800 442 443 (Quote reference: Green 012), or visit the website: greenproject.com.au.
